More Nikon 16mm Fisheye Experimenting

The Nikon 16mm Fisheye lens is a quite remarkable piece of tech in that it can actually record a full 180°. This sucker can see sideways! But straight from the camera the best I could get was this:

Not as wide as hoped and of course a little dull and dark... put it through DxO PL6, adjusted a few settings and discovered that there was more photo that was not originally revealed:

I then decided to squeeze a bit more out, played with the manual distortion buttons a bit as well and got this very wide and less fisheye looking photo:

Along the way I found that this lens really has very limited use but if used creatively in the right setting it can deliver interesting results. Not every bodies cup of tea, but interesting none the less.

Citadellkliniken

This clinic is right by the beachfront area of Landskrona and across from the Citadel area. I photographed it at night almost two hours after sunset, hand held. Nikon D850, Nikon 35mm f1.8 lens, iso 8000, f5.6, 1/60s, -1.0 EV, processed in DxO PL6.

Citadellbadet Building - Night

The building at one of the the swimming pools in Landskrona, but at night... in winter. No water in the pool right now but the building still lights up at night. I think it's very pretty.

Swedish Hobbit House

In a part of the earthen wall defenses of the Landskrona Citadel there is this entrance to what can only be a Hobbit house. (I assume it's actually some kind of storage room) Very Middle Earth.

Harbour Scenes

The harbour area around the Landskrona City Hall area is certainly worth a visit with its blend of old and modern buildings. Very photographic indeed.

Reflecting on the Landskrona Stadshus

The reflection of the Landskrona City Hall is almost prettier than the building itself.

Landskrona (again)

Living in this beautiful little southern Swedish town means that I get to photograph it quite a lot... here are some more.

Häljarps Mölla

I have seen this old windmill, outside the town of Häljarp, from the train many times over the years but never sought it out to photograph it until this last weekend and I'm glad I did, it is a beautifully preserved example of a 1700's mill & great to find one in such wonderful condition. The mill was in continuous operation from 1784 until the 1940s and donated to the local heritage association in 1952. The windmill is now a listed building.

Graffiti Done Right

I am not always a great fan of graffiti, mostly it's just the ugly scrawls of delinquents defacing public property that ends up costing the taxpayer millions each year to remove. But done right it can become a great local art exhibit that enhances an otherwise dull and dreary space into an attraction of colour and beauty. This pedestrian tunnel under a road is just wonderfully done and turns a grey concrete structure into eyecandy. Well done to the group of young people that created it and also to the local council that granted permission for it. 👍

New Apartment Complex

New apartment complex being built in Landskrona, right downtown. Looks like it may be finished soon.

Rådhustorget in Landskrona

This is the smallest and prettiest town I have ever lived in, very happy to be here.

Landskrona Theater

The 16mm f2.8 fisheye is fast becoming my favourite lens. It certainly has a look of it's own...

Landskrona Citadel - 16mm Handheld Night Shot

As the title says took this one hand held after sunset with my Nikon 16mm f/2.8 fisheye, a tiny and incredibly sharp old style "D" lens that performs great on any full frame camera. At night I tend to shoot at -1.7EV (or whatever negative compensation works best at the time) to get closer to the actual scene in front of me instead of having the camera try to expose to what it thinks is a well exposed shot but instead (at night) is actually overexposed. I also have auto iso set between 64 and 8000 to keep the shutter speeds as high as possible in low light, combined with the -EV I can generally get sharp enough pics hand held, after all... who wants to carry around a heavy tripod and have the hassle of setting it up and tearing it down after every shot? Not this lazy guy. 😎 The final stage is to process the raw file in DxO Photolab 6 which applies its own special magic pixie dust to produce the best possible result from the original file.

Anyway, here is the photo:

16mm, 1/25s, f5.6, ISO8000, -1.7EV, handheld

Water Tower

The local water tower is always a photo opportunity especially when it is lit up at night.

Ice Cold Citadel

Went down to the Landskrona Citadel this afternoon to take a few pics while the snow lasts. VERY cold but it certainly has a stark beauty with the harsh freeze of winter blanketing everything. I used a Nikon 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye AF-D mounted to the D850.

Morning Walk - Downtown Landskrona

I took a little morning walk around the center of Landskrona this morning to photograph the Christmas lights just before sunrise. Turned out quite well. Mostly I used the 50mm f1.8 at f8.0 but the shot of the old Town Hall was with my 24-120mm at 24mm & f8.0 just so that I could get it all in.
